Corruption undermines the stability of democratic institutions, thus threatening the core objectives of democracy, and therefore, harming all sectors of civil society.
The social, economic and political costs of corruption are enormous:
erosion of the rule of law; violation of fundamental rights; misallocation and waste of resources that burden the economy; exploitation of public funds for personal profits; distortion of public policy and more.
All of these undermine the trust and confidence of citizens in the fairness, integrity and effectiveness of public administration and civil servants.
