The Legal Clinic - The Legal Open Line
As of today, MQG operates four branches of the Legal Open Line, which allows citizens who have information about corruption, law infringement or improper practices in the public service, to seek redress.
Complaints reach the movement from all sectors of the Israeli public, including the different minorities. The number of complaints reaches an average of approx. 1200 complaints per year, and is constantly on the rise. This proves MQG's credibility and the public confidence in it.
The four branches, are usually manned by approx. 80 law students from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, "Shaarei Mishpat" College in Hod-Hasharon, and "Hamichlala Leminhal" in Rishon Letzion. The students are guided and instructed closely by MQG’s attorneys and volunteering attorneys. The movement intends to open more extensions of the Legal Open Line, in the near future.
Through the Legal Open Line, MQG promotes the exposure and elimination of corruption in governmental institutions, by informing the authorities, such as the State Comptroller and the Police, and demanding their investigation. If these bodies provide no remedy, MQG would then consider appealing to the High Court of Justice.
The Legal Open Line, through its cooperation with the Legal Dep., protects and assists whistle-blowers, and allows law students to practice law and ethics in the public service, thus enhancing education for democracy and the rule of law in Israel.
